Fly Fishing Gear
You may have always wondered… why do i need special fly fishing gear? Why can I not just use my regular spin reel or bait caster to do fly fishing? Why should I have to dish out more money in this bad economy to purchase a rod and reel I don't need?
Fly fishing reels serve several purposes but mainly are meant for the single reason that regular reels are unable to cast out line without enough weight upon the end of the line. Fly fishing reels are built to be able to lash the line back and forth in order to keep pushing line out to the point where it is long enough to hit your spot in the river or stream.
So in other words you need a fly fishing rod to cast out the light flies, as a regular reel requires wait of some sorts to perform a normal cast.

Gear needed for a successful fly fishing trip:
- Correct size rod for the size of fish being fished for
- Reel with adequate line for fly fishing
- Lightweight fly's that are similar to the type of bugs found around the area of the water being fished
Also if you happen to be on a budget you could construct your fly's but just cutting your bass fishing plastic worms into a more compact size worm so that it can float and still attract the river fish, but if you find yourself really into fly fishing, its worth the money to buy some real fly fishing gear.
