Fly Fishing Knot Basics

Fly Fishing Knot

Ever wanted to know about fly fishing knots? There are many different kinds of knots used in the sport of fly fishing, tie them wrong you may loose your catch, or tackle.

Albright Knot

The Albright Knot is the knot use to tie your fly line to the backing line. This knot must be tight enough and compact enough to slide through the guides of your rod.

Nail Knot

The Nail knot is used to connect your leader to the fly line. This is after of course you tie the Albright Knot to your backing line.

Surgeons Knot

Once you finish the Nail knot you must begin to attach your tippet. You use the Surgeons Knot in order to connect similar size line together as one. The tippets help give more control to the fishermen so that the drag of the water does not take it away.

Improved Clinch Line

This is the last line that finishes up on tying all of your lines together. This knot attaches your fly to the tippet. This is probably the most common knot used by any type of freshwater or saltwater fishermen as it is the knot used to tie the hook onto the end of the line for most types of bait.

Always remember to replace your lines after rigorous strain and rough use in which it might thin out. If you fail to do this you may lose your potentially monster catch!
